Day 23: Get or make a food waste bin

Food waste that ends up in landfill is the most polluting type of waste due to the release of greenhouse gases. Here’s what you need to do…

Landfill from above
Food waste in landfills is estimated to release 3.3 billion tons of greenhouse gases per year according to a calculation made by New Food Magazine.

The best thing you can do is not waste any food, by planning your meals and/or using a carbon-neutral food delivery service that supplies you with only the food you need for meals.

Inevitably you will end up wasting some food. Just be sure to place your food waste in your food waste bin so your local authority can use it to make compost (a useful product). As a result, you’re re-using/re-purposing the food you didn’t eat and it’s no longer ‘waste’.

Imagine...

Imagine if 1 million people completed 100 Days to Save the World.

We would change the world.

It's possible.

Imagine how the world could be.

It's up to us to change it. Not someone else.
