Day 66: Get a zero-waste groceries subscription

Did you know you can prevent thousands of pieces of plastic from entering the ocean by using a zero-waste groceries subscription? Here’s how…

Every time you buy cereals, chocolate, pasta or almost anything else from a grocery store or supermarket you also buy loads of packaging that gets thrown in the bin.

Calculations by authors of Science.org determined that millions of tons of plastic enter the ocean every month.

We calculate that 275 million metric tons (MT) of plastic waste was generated in 192 coastal countries in 2010, with 4.8 to 12.7 million MT entering the ocean…

…Without waste management infrastructure improvements, the cumulative quantity of plastic waste available to enter the ocean from land is predicted to increase by an order of magnitude by 2025.

In the UK, it’s estimated that more than 40% of waste is incinerated, causing millions of tons of greenhouse gas emissions.

What can you do to stop this?

It’s simple: stop buying food in packaging. You can subscribe to have (carbon neutral) food deliveries to your door. The food is decanted into your glass jars, meaning there’s zero packaging to throw into the sea or incinerate.
